My wife, Amy, and I have been married for 24 years. We met at a part-time job during the summer of 1991, when Amy was home from college. We have lived and worked in the Des Moines Area our entire married life.
We have three girls: Roslyn (20), Catherine (15), and Jillian (13). We live in Johnston, Iowa. After several years of working as a graphic designer, I switched gears and became a professor of Graphic Design at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny. I have enjoyed teaching full-time since 2007. My hobbies include: traveling, photography, going to concerts, hanging with friends and enjoying a cold beverage.
Amy is a nurse for Unity Point Healthcare and ChildServe. She specializes in profoundly handicapped pediatrics. She also has over ten years experience in cardiology and pulmonology. In the past, Amy performed as a stand up comedian at the Funny Bone. Mostly, her act contained humorous stories about her husband and her dad. She was voted the Funniest Person in Iowa in 1995 and 1996. Her hobbies include: baking (her cheesecake and cookie game is on point), writing short stories about the paranormal (a novel is currently in the works), and helping others navigate their family heritage.
Roslyn (Rosie) has just earned an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from DMACC and will be attending the University of Northern Iowa in the Fall. She plans on acquiring a teaching degree with minors in French and Spanish. Her career goals are to teach English in Europe (hopefully France). If that falls through, she would like to attend law school and become the next Judge Judy. Rosie is currently a friendly barista at the local Starbucks and loves to test out her coffee experiments on friends and family. She enjoys painting, playing piano, and photography. Her favorite food is sushi.
Catherine (Catey) is finishing 9th grade. She loves music. She plays percussion in band, has completed ten years of piano lessons and is starting ukulele lessons this summer. She’s a huge fan of the bands 21 Pilots and Panic at the Disco. Catey excels in every subject at school. She loves reading and Harry Potter. She has a strong love for all animals and has attended several vet camps. Her plans this summer are to win the city’s Mario Kart tournament (again) and to babysit her way to a new gaming console. Catey’s dream careers are being either a veterinarian or special education teacher. If she had one food to eat for the rest of her life, it would be homemade chicken pot pie.
Jillian was our only child we had who did not require fertility treatments. She was totally a surprise and came into the world five weeks early. She will be entering the 8th grade in the Fall and enjoys science and math. Jill is our family comedian. Her hobbies are YouTube, playing the ukulele and hanging out with her “squad” of friends. Jill can tell you anything you wish to know about unicorns. She is undecided on what she wants to be when she grows up “either own a taco food truck or be an animator for Pixar.” Strangely her favorite food is cheese pizza.
